New year, new films! I’m more an indie film lover than a blockbuster-hit fanatic, but this year there seems to be some killer movies hitting the big screen! Here’s a look at some huge movies coming out this year…and some smaller ones that will be amazing.
- The follow up to “Cloverfield”…which J.J. Abrams did in tot al secrecy and then surprised everyone! (it also stars one of my favorite actors, John Gallagher Jr.)
- I actually had the pleasure of seeing this film at the AFI Film Festival this past year. Nicholas Hytner did an amazing job with this very meta-type film. It’s heart-breaking, quirky, and fun…and Maggie Smith is sure to make you laugh your butt off.
- No need to really say anything about this film, it just looks awesome.
- THE MAD HATTER IS BACK. That’s all.
- One of my favorite animated films is coming to life and from the looks of the trailer, Jon Favreau nailed the live-action version. I’ll more than likely cry my eyes out at this one.
- Women Ghostbusters is probably my favorite thing to happen since Betty White. I’m so excited to see this one!
- First off, marketing team behind Deadpool deserves on Oscar. I don’t even think that’s a category, but they need to add it for this film. This film looks like the ultimate bad-ass movie.
- I’ve watched every interview with the real Edward Snowden, I’m super interested to see how they put his story to screen. I feel like it will be great.
- I mean…it’s Dory. One of the best characters from my childhood. I love her and I love Ellen so this is just a must.
- The Forest looks absolutely terrifying. I love scary films and I’m pretty sure this one will make me pee.
- My favorite book is Pride & Prejudice…so at first, I was a little hesitant. But the trailer looks so epic and I can’t help but want to see it.
- THE LITTLE CUTIES. I always wonder what my dogs do when I leave the house, now maybe I’l know….
- One of the best comedies of all time is releasing a sequel. ( If you didn’t know that, you’ve been living under a rock.) It’s going to be fantastic so just put it on your list.
- I’ll see anything with Robert Downey Jr., especially when he’s Iron Man. (If you haven’t seen a young RDJ in Chances Are though, go watch it now. It’s on Netflix.) I haven’t followed the Captain America series to closely, but this looks like it will be one hot fight.
- Going back to the world of magic! I have a feeling Eddie Redmayne will be extremely enchanting in this…not that he already isn’t all the time.
- I fell in love with Felicity Jones in Like Crazy…I can’t wait to see her in a Star Wars film!
And here’s some more independent (type, they still have pretty big names in them but are “indie”) films premiering this year that look topnotch:
- Other People
- Wiener-Dog
- Certain Women
- Hail Caesar!
- Joshy
- Manchester By The Sea
- Knight of Cups
- La La Land
- Midnight Special
